HeartCode is a self-paced instructional e-Learning program that uses e-Simulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning about basic and advanced life support.

Successful completion of the full ACLS Course using HeartCode ACLS includes two parts:

  • HeartCode ACLS Part 1. Upon successful completion of the cognitive portion, including the video-based cognitive lessons, 10 patient cases, and a 50-question multiple choice exam, students receive a Part 1 certificate of completion, which must be presented for Parts 2 and 3, Skills Practice and Testing.
  • Part 2*, a hands-on skills practice & test session with an AHA ACLS Instructor or using a voice-assisted manikin (VAM) system .

This course is valid for an Initial Certification or to Renew.  Duration will vary, based on students scope and knowledge. (10-hours of CME/CE credits available). HeartCode PALS is the official, self-directed, comprehensive e-learning program from the American Heart Association (AHA). Learners complete an interactive, cognitive portion that includes ten patient microsimulation scenarios covering the PALS algorithms, a team dynamics lesson, and access to AHA textbooks. Once the student has successfully completed their online course they may take their skills test. Skills tests may be completed at STAR CPR in Tehachapi. Once the skills test has been successfully completed the student will receive their official AHA PALS Card.

This training is intended for Healthcare Providers who are employed in Labor & Delivery, Post Partum, E.R. NICU, and other critical care areas. 

  1. Please click this link and READ the Student Guide NRP Foundations - 7th Edition before proceeding.
  2. ALL PROVIDERS must complete all 11 modules of the new online 7th edition exam, including 2 case simulations. 
  3. Make sure to use this  LINK for access to the appropriate NRP online portal.

Provider Curriculum, Part 1 –
focuses on building a foundation of neonatal resuscitation knowledge. The learning activities in Part I include:

  • Provider Exam
    • Section 1: Lessons 1-5 (25 questions)
      - Section 2: Lessons 6-11 (25 questions)
      - You have unlimited attempts to complete Section 1 and 2 of the exam
  • eSim Cases
    • There are two mandatory eSim cases (Preparation and Practice Case). There are four additional eSim courses. You will choose to complete two of the four, and have unlimited attempts to successfully complete them.

Learning activities must be completed sequentially. For example, after you successfully complete the Provider Exam Section 1, Provider Exam Section 2 will be unlocked and available. Once Part 1 is completed, a learner has 90 days to complete Part 2.  

Provider Curriculum, Part 2 -
includes the Instructor-led Event (hands-on portion of the course). The activities in this part are

  • Registering for an Instructor-led Event
  • Completing the Instructor-led Event Evaluation

You must register for an NRP 7th edition, Instructor-led Event, before attending the event at STAR CPR.  Please search Healthstreams  
for STAR CPR NRP SKILLS on the date you plan to attend and add yourself to the event for that date. The event (skills check) must be completed and graded by the instructor, as passed before you have access to your NRP E-card certification.

What does the course teach?

The course is designed to prepare you to provide first aid in a safe, timely, and effective manner, according to the American Heart Association 2015 CPR & ECC Guidelines. Depending on your experience, plan to spend approximately 4 hours & 45 minutes to complete the online course. The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED "hands-on" skill evaluation session is approximately 1-2 hours.

  • ALL "optional modules" are REQUIRED by TUSD District Office. 

After completing this course you will need to meet with an insrtuctor, demomstrate understanding, and show competency in various skills: Dress confortably, ladies, you will be bending and leaning over a manikin for CPR skills.
